So Busy. . .

We were very busy this week incorporating new classroom behavior expectations and really working hard on all of our academics!

I had great intentions to take photos a variety of times, but it just never seemed to happen!  Sorry!

I have updated the spelling words and the newsletter.  In the newsletter, there is a link to the Gretna Neighbors Food Drive letter if you have forgotten any details.  We would be happy to accept any non-perishable items that you can donate! Thank you in advance :-)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Have a great week!

Our Assembly Line. . .

This week we were busy!  We had our first Enrichment class with Mrs. Mitchell and also had Guidance this week.  We worked on cause and effect in reading and have been brainstorming great leads for our new stories in writer's workshop.  We also had a great time learning about economics specifically about producers & consumers.  Here are some photos of our own version of an assembly line and the roles of producers and consumers.  Enjoy!

Just a quick note, there will NOT be a spelling test this week due to the fact that we aren't having school on Friday.  However, I did pretest the kiddos just so I would know which words they should spend time working on throughout the week.  On Thursday, I will pretest for next week's words and those are up on the blog.

Thanks,

Mrs. Jones

Pumpkins, Apples, Rocks, and Numbers . . .

Hi All,

I hope everyone had a great weekend of fun fall excursions!  I heard several students mention Applejack Festival and Vala's Pumpkin Patch for weekend plans!  It was definitely a perfect "fall weather" weekend for both of those places.

Just a quick reminder to have your child bring in a rock TOMORROW!!  Any 'ol rock will do!  Can't wait to see what they find :-)

For fun, here are some quick pictures from our math time this week.  We spent a couple of days on number strings in our addition unit and strengthening our number sense knowledge.

Also, we worked on including our "5 Senses" in our writing and trying to think of them as "5 Details" just to help us in adding feelings and details in our small moment stories.

Lastly, we did a fun activity with some different feeling words - here are a few of the students but everyone will be coming home with their photo and feeling word :)

Enjoy!

Now for this week, first and foremost I want to thank all of you that were able to come to Curriculum Night!  It was great to see you.  For those of you that weren't able to make it, the paperwork will be coming home early next week.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

It was a busy week of Daily 5 reading groups, writing haircut stories, learning about the layers of the Earth, and practicing addition and subtraction strategies! But we were able to finish off our Friday with some english muffins to complete our work on the story Mr. Putter & Tabby Pour the Tea during whole group reading!  YUMMY!

I hope many of you were able to enjoy the PTO Family Fun BBQ Night Friday night!  Don't forget that the PTO Fundraiser packets are due back TUESDAY!!  I can't wait to see how much we earn for our playground upgrades!

Lastly, the newsletter and the weekly spelling links have been updated!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.  Enjoy your weekend!

I've added several links to the blog this weekend.  This blog is still a work in progress, so if possible please take a little time to check the links out.  It would be great if you could let me know how they are working both on your computers and your phones!  Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing all of you at Curriculum Night on August 27th, check out more details about our week and upcoming events on the Newsletter link!

Lastly, I completely forgot to take photos of the kiddos with their landform models on Friday, so expect these to be coming soon!  Hope you all had a great weekend!

First Days...
What a great first 2 days of 2nd grade!  We were so busy learning routines, meeting new friends, reading, and working on so many new things that the time just flew by!  Next week, I will have a more in-depth post and a link to our weekly newsletter, but for today just enjoy some photos!
